Are You Ready For The BIG Healthcare Changes That Are Going To Impact All Of Us?
As you may have heard, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will significantly affect every individual, family and most businesses in our nation. Whether you call it the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Health Insurance Reform, Health Care Reform, or “Obamacare” – it is going to change how most of us get our health insurance forever.
In fact, nearly all of us will need to have a new insurance plan in place by January 1st, 2014 – and “Open Enrollment” starts on October 1st.
These days nearly everyone is talking about this issue, wondering how they will be affected and just how these major changes will impact their health and their finances.
Unfortunately, the rules and regulations for this law are still being written and many details are yet unknown – causing a lot of confusion and anxiety among families and businesses we talk with.
Fortunately, here at Hedges Insurance our team is fully committed to “Demystifying Obamacare” for our clients and helping them get clarity on this very important issue. Our approach with our customers is “Let’s Make This Easy”, and you can count on us for timely and accurate information, plan recommendations that are based on what is truly best for you, and the essential facts you need boiled down in a way that makes Health Care Reform as easy to understand as possible.
So relax…we’re going to make this easy!
One misconception that is commonly held is that “Obamacare” is a government health plan. In reality, the ACA is based on existing Health Insurance companies (including most of the major names you are familiar with like Blue Cross) continuing to sell their own plans that have simply been reconfigured to conform to new regulations. These plans will likely be different from the plans you’ve had in the past, and in many cases will carry higher premiums.
One of the most important things for you to know is that while premiums will be going up significantly for many people, you may be able to have the government pay for a portion of your Health Insurance premiums. What will determine if you are eligible for a subsidy is the Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) on your 2012 tax return.
If you have been on your current health insurance plan prior to March 23, 2010, you will not have to change your plan. However, if you started your current coverage on or after that date, your plan will automatically change.
The bottom line is that there is a very good chance that your current health insurance will change next year and the government might give you a monthly subsidy to help you pay for your coverage.
